IM as a messaging infrastructure
See this recent article over at Jive, advocating the use of XMPP for inter-application messaging, and more specifically cloud computing. Underlying chat/IM protocols have long been used in astute enterprises to better connect users with applications. Notification bots are the most primitive example of these. So, while the basic premise isn’t exactly new, XMPP’s potential emergence as the dominant cloud protocol (see the TiVo example) is intriguing. There’s some further commentary and analysis here.
